What a beautiful place! We spent the most wonderful week -- the week of my son's wedding -- on Martha's Vineyard the third week of September (21-28) and everything was perfect... We rented a lovely 5-BR house right in downtown Edgartown through Sandcastle Realty that was everything -- and more -- than was promised. Both the house and the rental company were accommodating and great. We were within easy walking distance of fantastic restaurants, the best of which is Lattanzi's where we hosted the BEST rehearsal dinner. (We also ate a regular meal there, so we can vouch for the general excellence of the food and the experience.) We had great fried clams (twice!) at The Net Result in Vineyard Haven -- but we didn't go in prime time and it wasn't crowded or frenzied at all, just hot, fresh, and delicious. The bagels at MV Bagel Authority in Vineyard Haven were as good as NYC's. The caterer for the wedding provided -- honestly -- the best catered food I've ever had. It was Chefworks and there was just no way to improve it, either the food or the service. I know you must all think I'm kinda nuts with all these perfect reviews, but I'm telling you the absolute truth -- all these things were just fantastic, and I'd tell you if it were otherwise because I rely heavily on TA for every trip I take. I'll also tell you that MV was probably 20% more expensive than most places I've been, but it's an island economy, and I expect that -- I'm just thrilled it was GREAT even if it was expensive. Often the two don't go together! Oh, one other thing -- we rented a minivan at Logan Airport through bidding on Priceline and it saved us a ton. We got the minivan for $35/day, the same minivan we were quoted almost $600/wk. Feel free to contact me by PM if you need more information. There’s a limit to how long my review can be!!

Hi, about Martha's Vineyard. You mention renting a house there for a week, then staying at a hotel in Nantucket. This sounds like a good plan to me! We just rented a place on MV for a week, through Sandcastle Realty. www.sandcastlemv.com/ They are nice, and easy to talk to. We just did this and there were quite a few houses still to rent (depends on the dates). You might get confused about WHERE to rent on the island. I think a good start would be Edgartown, including its outskirts. If you read up on this forum there are a number of posts that explain the gist of the island, the different towns, etc. But if you are looking for really rural and quiet you might consider Chilmark and/or near the town of Menemsha. Based on what you have posted I think Edgartown would be up your alley. Of course you will have to buy your own groceries or find places to eat out. Not really a problem, just wanted to mention this. Since you're coming from far away you probably want a place that will provide linen service (sheets and towels), too. Some of them have that option. It's very easy to bicycle on the island, so it doesn't really matter if you are one or two miles outside the center of town. On the other hand, you might enjoy renting a house in the center of town, too. Let us know if you have more questions.
