NATIVE INHABITANTSThe first inhabitants of the Island were Native Americans, the Wampanoags. Archeological finds indicate that they have inhabited the Island for at least 5000 years and they remain active members of our community to this day. The Wampanoag name for the Island is "Noepe" which means "Island in the streams". |
