Martha’s Vineyard Farms

Thanks to the fertile soil, Martha’s Vineyard farms are plentiful, with many offering tours and educational opportunities for guests. Stop by and learn a new skill, enjoy a farm-to-table meal, or pick up some deliciously fresh ingredients to enjoy at your vacation home. Regardless of which farms you visit or the kind of experiences you’re looking for, connecting to the land will deepen your appreciation of this area.

Morning Glory Farms

Carefully cultivating 70 acres of fruit, vegetables, and fresh flowers, Morning Glory Farms has been in operation since 1975. While they host the occasional festival and special event, like their pumpkin fest and corn maze in the fall, the crown jewel is their year-round farmstand.

Open daily from 8:30 AM to 6 PM, you’ll find fresh-baked breads, sun-ripened produce (only the freshest, in-season items), beautiful cut flowers, and even prepared recipes like soups and pies. It’s completely free to visit the farm and look around, so be sure to add a stop by this popular spot to your upcoming itinerary.

Looking for some on-the-go farm-fresh food? Don’t forget to try the MoGlo Food Truck! The rotating menu is optimized for peak freshness and serves up breakfast and lunch right on the farm grounds. Hours vary by season, but in the summer, you can expect to find them cooking Wednesday through Sunday from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM.

Allen Farm Sheep and Wool Company

As the oldest working farm on Martha’s Vineyard, Allen Farm is a great spot to learn about the history of traditional New England farming. The original farmhouse, built in the 1700s, still stands, as do other farm structures and outbuildings.

While there’s not an official farm tour, the family is happy to show you around on the way to their shop. Keep your eyes peeled for grazing sheep, horses, and donkeys, listen for the fluttering of chickens and ducks, and stop by to see the bottle-fed lambs and horses. The beautiful throws, blankets, and sweaters make wonderful souvenirs or gifts that commemorate your visit to MV.

Check out the Alpaca Walk and Talks, Summer Alpaca Yoga Classes, and private farm tours for immersive and educational experiences that guide you through the inner workings of the farm, what it takes to raise alpacas, how the shearing and fiber harvesting process works, and much more. Know Before You Go

  • Reserve Your Spot Early – Summer is prime farm-touring time; it’s also peak tourist season. If you’re looking to visit a farm with bookable tours, make sure to reserve your spot well in advance so you can lock in your preferred time and day.
  • Come Prepared – if you’re going to be out all day, make sure you have sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, and wear comfortable shoes.
  • Map It Out – As we stated, the island is busy in the summer. Even though we’ve only got about 100 square miles, extra traffic during peak seasons can affect travel times.
  • Check the Weather – As an island, we’re no strangers to the occasional pop-up storm. Check the weather before your trip and bring along a small umbrella just in case. Don’t worry, though. Summer is the driest part of the year, so if there is rain, it likely won’t last long.
